Hot and Bothered

By Joe Templin · August 10, 2026 · 1 min read

“Nothing makes me so excessively peevish as hot weather.” -Jonathan Swift

When it is so hot and humid you feel like you are drinking instead of breathing, you probably don’t have much tolerance for anything other than some AC or a cold drink.

When you walk outside into the blast furnace and start pouring sweat like the faucet just broke open, you aren’t exactly able to hold your cool. Neither is anyone else around you, so the emotional temperatures rise to equal the mercury.

It is when temperatures soar and tempers are short that we must be the most empathetic. It is when everyone is hot and bothered that exhibiting a bit of extra effort and keeping our cool is the most noticeable to others, the calm in the thunderstorms that pop up this time of year that earns recognition and reward.
