“It’s unbelievable how much you don’t know about the game you’ve been playing your whole life.” -Mickey Mantle
We are in the game of building relationships and helping others.
And yet few professionals are told this early in their career, and often take decades before realizing the game that they are playing is actually not sales but rather the same game they learned in preschool when we made new friends by doing new things with new people, and sometimes convincing them to share their toys or cookies. By helping them whether it was picking up the supplies after making art or putting our shoes where they go or giving another kid a hug when they scraped their knee.
But what do you REALLY know about building relationships and convincing others to change for the better?
Do you read psychology so you understand how people work (especially yourself)?
Do you read industry news, so are up to speed on the legislative changes that could impact the people you talk to?
Do you have a mentor?
Do you go to class?
Start learning more about the game you play so that you can play it better.
